FAQ

Where is your office located?

Although my base is in New York City, I’m not currently maintaining an office.

I currently conduct all sessions virtually. I’m licensed in New Jersey and New York, so we can work together wherever you are in those two states!

How much does therapy cost? Do you accept insurance?

I don’t accept any insurances but can work with your out of network benefits. My sessions cost $200 a session.

If you would like to see if your insurance offers out of network benefits, this is what you need to do:

1- Call them and ask them if your plan has out of network benefits.

2- Ask them how much your deductible and coinsurance are.

3- Ask them how they process superbills.

Out of Network benefits allow you to see providers outside of your insurance coverage while still having some coverage. The way it works is that you pay out of pocket for the service and then send the superbill (an explanation of the services you received) to the insurance company to get some coverage. They will then reimburse you. How much they reimburse you depends on what your deductible and coinsurance are. Your deductible is the amount of money you need to pay out of pocket before your insurance will begin to reimburse you. Your coinsurance is the percentage of the cost of services they will reimburse you after your deductible is met.

For example, if your deductible is 1000 dollars and your coinsurance is 70% and you are seeking therapy at my cost of 200. After 5 sessions, your deductible will be met and the company will reimburse you 70 percent of all out of network services you pay for. They will reimburse you 140 dollars for every 200 dollars you pay towards therapy.

What are your available hours?

I work a flexible schedule to facilitate your needs; however, I generally conduct sessions Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.

How long are your sessions?
Sessions are 45 minutes long from the start of your appointment; however, I extend the session to a full hour if more time is needed.
How do I set up an initial appointment?

You can call me or email me, and I’ll get back to you.

I offer a free 15-minute consultation before your initial session to make sure we’re a good fit. To provide you with the best possible therapy, we need to be compatible and ensure my skill set addresses your needs.

After your consultation, we’ll go ahead and set your first appointment.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you must cancel, I ask for 24 hours’ notice.

If you cancel within that time but with no emergency, you will incur a charge of 50% of your session fee.

With whom do you work?

I work with adult individuals, couples, and parents.

With individuals – I typically work with clients who’ve experienced trauma, abuse, or attachment injuries. Ironically, people who have any one of these generally aren’t aware that they do because their background or environment has led them to believe they are at fault for what’s happening to them.

They realize something is up when they experience what feels like a sudden, difficult, or challenging life transition such as moving, changing jobs, break-ups, or enormous difficulty implementing something. These difficulties usually sound like: “Something feels off, and the depression or anxiety just isn’t getting better.”

What are your specialties?

I have experience in a wide array of areas, many of which appear simultaneously. I work with people struggling with trauma, abuse, identity, belonging, race-related issues, and spirituality.

I also help those wishing to improve communication and parenting skills.

I am EMDR trained and use elements of internal family systems to guide my trauma work.

What actually happens in a session?

This is an important but tough question to answer as it really depends on you.

In some sessions, we focus on emotional regulation – you’ve experienced something challenging and, before moving further, you simply need to regulate.

In other sessions, we concentrate on understanding the self – your understanding of yourself, your world, your life as it happens.

And we sometimes engage in deep trauma work. Together, we process traumatic events – understanding the parts (internal family systems) within you and your trauma responses.

All these sessions are necessary and beneficial – they’re not completely random. I use what’s coming up for you, what I’ve heard about your childhood, and what you want to accomplish to create a general plan for you. I then tailor every session by combining the overall plan with your particular needs at the moment.

What are your therapy values?

I want you to know the intention I bring to the therapy process.

  1. I’ll always be present with you.

I do a lot to care for myself in between sessions so that when I’m in the session with you, I’m 100% there and keenly focused on both past and present sessions and who you are, and your therapy goals.

  2. I have done/am doing the work.

I don’t come into this position with the ideal of: “I want to help people because I think it will be a gratifying career choice.” Sure, that’s valid, but I’m in this position because I know what it feels like to have therapy be the last option – the one that really has to work. I personally know how important this work is and how much growth can happen within the therapy room.

  3. I’m always curious.

I don’t and won’t know everything about you. I know this. I will always ask you more questions to make sure I understand everything properly.

  4. This is a two-way relationship.

A therapeutic relationship is a genuinely beautiful thing. It’s a place in which you can know I’m 100% invested – and that means I need to hear from you. Some things won’t work for you, but others will work fantastically. Let me know about both so we can explore more deeply what is or isn’t working.

What happens in between sessions?

I assign homework. I’m here to get you moving, experiencing, feeling, resting, etc. And that requires work in between sessions.

I may ask you to process a session, narrate an experience, do self-care, write a journal, etc. My expectation of you is to do the homework or talk to me about why you couldn’t.

Going back to the two-way relationship – I want to hear from you to make this work for you.

My Personal Fun Facts

Every year, at the beginning of school, we had to share this kind of thing about ourselves and while everyone didn’t enjoy it for their own reasons, I was too busy combing through which one to say. So here are some for you!

I’ve lived in four different countries, traveled Southeast Asia solo (Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand – this one with friends), and moved 17 times in my life – I am a master packer.

I’ve helped my family raise one cat, six kittens, two chicks, two birds, and a squirrel (not in a pear tree). At the same time.

I’m currently getting into weightlifting. As of October 2021, I can deadlift 150 pounds. This is currently my “cool aunt” ticket, so I must also use it here!
